lasagna

i just made lasagna just now. been making this since i was, well, after school maybe? but, recently, i rarely made this because i was too lazy indeed. hihi. here goes the recipe.

first, of course you need a lasagna. i usually use this brand. after using, you can keep them in refrigerator and it would last for years! ok, maybe i was exaggerate. but, i think, this lasagna has been in my refrigerator for months.

then, you need to have this meat sauce or often being known as bolognaise sauce. the ingredients are:

minced meat
onion & garlic
tomato puree
tomato juice *optional
vegetable juice *optional
Prego's bolognaise sauce *optional
chopped tomatoes - to have chuncky taste in your sauce
a can of button mushroom-sliced
carrot-chopped *optional
oregano or any other herbs
bay leaves
salt & pepper-to taste
olive oil

method
1-heat oil, add in garlic & onion. stir until fragrant and add in your minced meat. stir until meat has released its juice and dry a bit.
2-pour in tomato puree, tomato juice, vegetable juice, diced tomatoes, carrots and bay leaves. let it simmer over moderate heat to let the meat tender and the gravy becomes thick.
3-when the sauce has thickened, season with salt and pepper and herbs. pour in sliced tomatoes and remove from heat.

another compulsary ingredients to make lasagna is Bechamel sauce or also known as white sauce.

ingredients:
roux-mixture of butter & flour
2 litres of milk
bay leaves
onion
2 cloves

method:
1-heat the pot and add in your butter. let it melt and add in flour. stir until it turns yellowish and form a ball/dough.
2-pour in milk, onion, cloves and bay leaves and whisk continously to avoid the sauce becomes lumpy.
3-make sure the heat is moderate and do not leave it or else, it would burnt.
4-whisk until sauce becomes thick and at the right consistency.

ok, first, you have to arrange these lasagna sheets onto baking tray. note: spread white sauce on the bottom first before arranging first layer of lasagna. sometimes, you have to break them to fit your tray.

after arranging lasagna sheets, pour in your white sauce, meat sauce and sprinkle mozarella cheese on top. repeat this step for three layers. on the last layer, after u have sprinkled mozarella cheese, pour the Bechamel sauce again on top. then, wrap baking tray with aluminium foil. this is to keep the moisture while baking. later, bake for 45 minutes at 200 degree celcius. if you're using microwave oven, set the temperature at 170 degree celcius.

last but not least, the result...tadaaa...isn't it mouth-watering??

note: after baking this, you can freeze the leftover and put them in microwave anytime you want to eat. that's how they do in restaurants and hotels.

ayam masak kunyit

been keeping this entry for week now. sorry everyone! hihih. ok, ok. ayam masak kunyit is my favourite since my days of Diploma in Penang years ago. friend of mine introduced this to me because i thought it look so appetizing, and i asked what name it was. ever since that day, i've been ordering this dish each time i go to eat to any Malay stalls. yesterday, i tried making this again at home using my own version. my mother used to make them too, and me myself used to make it. but, too bad, each time, they didn't taste as good as like the one i ate at stalls. but, i thought it wasn't that bad either..hihihihi.

2 garlic
1 cm ginger

masak lemak cendawan kukur

have you guys ever heard of cendawan kukur? this is one of my favourite childhood dishes. i still remember when i was still in primary school, my grandmother often went to morning market somewhere at Beranang to buy fresh groceries and there's always one makcik selling this cendawan at one corner. sometimes my grandmother would buy and cook them masak lemak cili padi. being a child, i don't really into such exotic food then. but, when i grow up, i always wanted to eat this mushroom. too bad, these days, it's really hard to get this mushroom anywhere even at my hometown market. the reason is, this mushroom usually grow on decayed rubber tree. so, it would take sometime to wait for these mushrooms to grow and hand-pick them. today, rubber tree usually doesn't have time to be decayed or left on ground just like that because people would take and turn them into furniture. that is why, these mushrooms is very difficult to find. today, my mother went to Selayang Pasar Borong to buy fresh groceries early at dawn and guess what, she brought back a plastic of cendawan kukur!!! she said this is the last plate she could get. this cendawan kukur must be cooked straight away on the day you bought it or else, it would turn withered. then, it must be soaked to remove all the dirty particles and only then we can cook it.

forgot to snap pictures and when i went to the kitchen they already inside my mother's wok ready to be cooked.

tadaaaaaa....it's soooo good. bye bye cendawan kukur. meet you again, in ___ years! sob..sob

Pai Tee. it's soooo goood. i think it would be better if they put mince meat/prawn inside.

Char Kuew Tiew. it's not like the original Char Kuew Tiew i used to eat in Penang for 3 years. still, it is good in its own way

Kampung Style Fried Rice. it's goooood. not too salty not too plain not too oily. full of stuffs in it.

Old Klang Station

ok....again, no updates. since i've started working, i've been busy though and not going anywhere much. during weekends, bb is working and left me no one to going out with to explore new restaurants or doing any food adventure (adventure la sangat!).

ok, yesterday, after visiting Pia's father at HUKM, i planned to drop by at bb's house to meet his newly born niece, Bella. i've visited Kak Long, his sister at Prince Court before but i didn't have a chance to meet her baby last time. so, we stopped at Giant first to buy some things and bb bought some groceries which his mother asked him.

we had our lunch there at the cafe, or kopitiam i must say called "Old Klang Station". the menus are just the same with other kopitiams, nothing differs. we had Fried Noodles, Fried Rice, half-boiled eggs (that would be mine! heee) and chocolate drinks. what i can say is, the taste just like any other kopitiam. i've found that the Fried Rice is a bit salty for me. Fried Noodles is ok, but i prefer PakLi's because they're spicier.

Kampung Style Fried Rice

Half-boiled eggs - A Must!!

Fried Noodles. just ok.

Beriyani

working life means, i have to allocate some money for my breakfast, lunch and tea time. i don't know why, but since i started working, i eat like a bear. i feel hungry in the morning, looking forward for lunch and stomach growled in the evening.

last week on wednesday, my colleagues went to mamak's restaurant called Insaf at Jalan TAR to have Beriyani rice. they said Beriyani here is delicious. well, after eating it (not even finish it), i don't think it's good enough. their chicken with honey gravy were prepared too simple. i felt like it just a fried chicken covered with honey. nothing artful eating it. haih~ what i can say is, i would definitely do not want to go here again. eating this Beriyani makes me miss Batu Pahat Beriyani :(

i don't know what is it with us, are we under spell or something because these days eating at Murni Discovery, Taipan, Subang has been like a routine for bb and i. last week we went to have dinner here, last night we went again and today, well..again. not talking much, let's drooling together with these pictures. well, sorry for the picture quality. took it using my cheap handphone though.

roti jepun: i thought it was too sweet. taste like roti bom, but what make it differs is it contains cheese and egg. eating this like getting a free ticket to diabetes. well, it was good anyway.

nasi goreng maryland: marvellous, just marvellous. enough said.

nasi goreng fish & chips: heavenly done. too big in portion. warning!: make sure you have an empty stomach before eating this dish.

strawberry special: finally, after only my fifth (including the one in PJ) visit i get this drink!! seriously worth it!

last week, i went for barbecue with my ex-schoolmates buddies at Manisah's house in Labu, Negeri Sembilan. although it just 5 of us, but the food were massive and flooded our tiny round table. see...how greedy we were! :P all of the food were superb!!!!! they were sooo delicious that making me drooling my saliva just by thinking about it. hope we can make it again in future!! well, as i was appointed as head chef for this event (ehemm..ehemm), below are some of food that we prepared together. we had honey roasted chicken wing, roasted lamb, garlic bread, coleslaw, vegetable skewer, mashed potato, pudding, sausages and tempura dory fish. just reading the name alone make me hungry. well, to make it even hungrier, let's see these pictures (oh no!! i'm craving for all of them!!)

seriously good. life is an utter bliss.

penang nyonya

sorry i didn't update this blog for quite a while now. been busy with work. anyway, last week i went for barbecue at my friend's house in Labu and when bb fetched me at KTM station from my hectic journey from Nilai - Subang Jaya, we went to Subang Parade because i haven't had my lunch yet. we had lunch (or early dinner at 4pm?) at Penang Nyonya. for food, i think it was good, well i don't know whether it's because i was hungry or they're real good. but, bb said his meal was good too, so, i just assuming all the food are good. hehe. i had curry chicken nasi lemak and air mata kucing while bb having roti jala and barley drink. i reallllllly love bb's roti jala because it's soooo tender. i look forward to dine at this place again in the future.

Murni Discovery

another entry!!! remember last time my review about SS2 Murni? well, last night, we went to have dinner at Murni Discovery at Taipan. well, what i can say is, the place isn't that pack or busy compared to SS2. there were many empty tables and you do not have to queue to get your seat. well, i don't know how it goes during weekend because last night is still in working days. i bet, it would be busier. below are what we've ordered last night. hehe. by the way, deciding and ordering at Murni Discovery is much way easier because they provide us each with menu card. hehe.

i love you drink. yummm~

bb's watermelon juice

Emperor Noodle (black pepper) - why the one at SS2 is white in colour?

best ever chicken Maryland. well, i persuaded bb to order this..hehe :p

and last but not least, the crowd. sorry for the picture quality. somehow i like it better at SS2. the food served is faster and we can see the cooks in action :P here, the ambience is more like a cafe and no open kitchen to watch while waiting for our food. hehe. anyway, i thought that the service is more systematic here as every food got a label on since all the waiters using PDA to take orders. so, it would be fair for the food queue and there's no room for mistakes like wrong orders.
